Smartphone manufacturers are in a race to make the world’s thinnest foldable smartphones. Although Vivo isn’t at the top of the hill in this game, measuring 9.2mm when folded and 4.3mm when unfolded, it does pack one major advantage, and that is battery size.

Essentially the largest battery in any foldable smartphone in Malaysia, the Vivo X Fold 5’s battery measures 6,000mAh in capacity, and can be charged at 80W via USB-C and 40W with a wireless charger.

It’s also got the highest dust and water resistance rating in any foldable smartphone, rated at up to IP59+. Since we’re on the topic of durability, Vivo says the X Fold 5 can withstand up to 600,000 folds in its lifetime.

Display-wise, the Vivo X Fold 5 packs two 120Hz LTPO AMOLED panels. This includes a 6.53″ 2748×1172 panel for its cover screen and an 8″ 2480×2200 on the inside. Peak brightness is rated at 5,500 nits and 4,500 nits, respectively.

Powering the X Fold 5 is Qualcomm’s flagship chipset from 2024, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

In the imaging department, the Vivo X Fold 5 comes with a tri-camera setup on its back that’s been co-developed with Zeiss. This consists of a 50MP f/1.57 main camera with OIS and a 1/1.56″ Sony IMX921 sensor, a 50MP f/2.55 telephoto camera that can do 3x optical zoom, as well as a 50MP f/2.05 ultra-wide-angle shooter. For selfies and video calls, you get one 20MP snapper on each display.

Keeping lights on for the Vivo X Fold 5 is a 6,000mAh battery. Vivo reckons this cell can last up to 8.8 days of connected standby, 80.6 hours of music playback, 25.9 hours of video playback, and 13.2 hours of online meetings. When the battery does run flat, you can charge it via USB-C at 80W, or wirelessly at 40W.

As for software, the X Fold 5 runs on Vivo’s Funtouch OS 15, which is based on Google’s Android 15. This gives the foldable Vivo-exclusive software features such as Origin Workbench, which lets you multitask and switch between five applications on the fly, Vivo DocMaster, where you can work on your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, and AI ImageExpander, which can help expand your photos using artificial intelligence (AI).
