KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim has congratulated his Japanese counterpart, Sanae Takaichi, following the Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) decisive victory in the country’s general election.

“This resounding mandate reflects public confidence in her vision for Japan’s economic renewal and her ability to energise a new generation of voters,” said in a Facebook post today.

He said during Takaichi’s visit to Malaysia for the Asean-led summits in October, just days after she took office, she had engaged him on issues vital to both nations with “real commitment and enthusiasm”.

Key areas of discussion included economic resilience, the green transition, and maritime security.

“Malaysia is committed to sustaining momentum on these and other vital priorities.

“She has famously said that she will ‘work, work, work, work and work’ for Japan. I look forward to working just as intensely with Prime Minister Takaichi to take the Malaysia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to the next level,” he added.

Yesterday, Takaichi’s coalition swept to a landslide victory in a snap general election.

The party of Japan’s first female leader won a supermajority in the lower house, securing 316 of its 465 seats.
