Huawei has officially launched its latest flagship Pura 80 smartphone series in Malaysia. But unlike in , only the Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra are made available for our market, bringing innovative smartphone imaging features such as a dual telephoto lens system that can zoom optically at up to 9.4x.

The Huawei Pura 80 series is now open for pre-order in Malaysia, with free gifts worth up to RM1,428 on offer. This includes a Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4, as well as one year of Huawei Care+ worth RM479.

Huawei Malaysia will also be holding its Sales Start Campaign for the Pura 80 series between 2nd August and 31st December, 2025, offering exclusive prizes worth up to RM2,978. The Huawei Pura 80 series sports a distinctive design, highlighted by the triangular-shaped camera island, which Huawei calls the Dazzling Forward Symbol. Both the Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra are rated at up to IP69 for water resistance, and come with the AI Smart Controls Button.

When pressed, the button allows you to access personalised shortcuts such as the camera, torchlight, or AI lens, and also does double duty as a fingerprint scanner. Colour-wise, the Pura 80 Pro is available in Glazed Red, Glazed White, or Glazed Black.

Both models share the same 6.8″ 120Hz LTPO OLED display that outputs a resolution of 2848×1276 and a 3,000 nits peak brightness. Protecting the Pro model is the 2nd-Gen Kunlun Glass, which Huawei says is 20 times tougher than standard glass.

Powering the Huawei Pura 80 series is the brand’s in-house-developed Kirin 9020 chipset, similar to the one found under the hood of the Huawei Mate X6 foldable. With the Pura 80 Pro, the chipset is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Now, let’s shift our attention to the cameras. Essentially, both the Pro and Ultra models get the same main, ultra-wide-angle, and selfie cameras. Let’s get to them one by one.

The main camera is a 50MP shooter coupled with a variable aperture of f/1.6 to f/4.0, along with a 1″ sensor. Huawei is also boasting this camera’s dynamic range capabilities, specifically at 16EV, which the company says is 15x higher than conventional smartphones, and nearly matching the capabilities of professional cinema cameras at 16.5EV.

As for the ultra-wide-angle camera, you get a 40MP f/2.2 snapper. Meanwhile, handling selfies for the Pura 80 Pro and Ultra is a 13MP shooter. For taking faraway subjects, the Huawei Pura 80 Pro is equipped with a 48MP f/2.1 telephoto camera, capable of 4x optical zoom, and macro photos at up to 5cm from the subject.

Battery-wise, you get a 5,170mAh battery that can do 100W wired charging via USB-C and 80W using a wireless charger. The Pura 80 series runs on Huawei’s EMUI 15.0, based on HarmonyOS.

Huawei Pura 80 Ultra: What extras do you get?

First up, the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra can be had in either Prestige Gold or Golden Black, and its screen is covered by the 2nd-Gen Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass, which is said to provide 16 times greater scratch resistance and 25 times better drop protection than its predecessor.

As mentioned above, the Pura 80 Ultra is equipped with the same main, ultra-wide, and selfie cameras as its Pro sibling. However, it gets a big boost with its telephoto camera.

Specifically, you’re looking at the industry’s first dual-lens telephoto system. Essentially, this system consists of a 50MP 1/1.28″ sensor, which is shared by a f/2.4 lens that can do 3.7x optical zoom and a f/2.6 lens that can optically zoom at up to 9.4x. The only “price” you need to pay for this is a slightly thicker camera bump.
