A man died and seven others, including a child, were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the North-South Expressway near Rawang early today
RAWANG: A man was killed and seven others injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the North-South Expressway early Thursday.
The fatal crash involved an express bus, a bonded lorry, and a trailer at Kilometer 433 southbound near Rawang.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the deceased was the driver of the bonded lorry, who was trapped in his vehicle.
“The man was confirmed dead by a Ministry of Health medical officer at the scene before being handed over to police for further action,” he said in a statement.
Five bus passengers were injured, comprising four men—one in serious condition—and a young girl.
All five were taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
Two other men, the 39-year-old assistant driver of the bonded lorry and the trailer driver, were also injured and taken to the same hospital.
In total, 31 individuals were involved in the incident.
They included 16 men, five women, and seven children from the Scania express bus, two men from the bonded lorry, and one man from the trailer.
The fire department received an emergency call at 5.12 am.
Rescue teams from the Bukit Sentosa and Rawang fire stations arrived at the scene by 5.21 am.
The rescue operation involved 16 firefighters using a Light Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Response Motorcycle from Bukit Sentosa, plus a Fire Rescue Tender from Rawang.
