KUALA LUMPUR: Vacancies in parliamentary special select committees (PSSC) have all been filled following the cabinet reshuffle on Dec 16 last year which elevated eight MPs to ministerial and deputy minister posts.
The minutes of the selection committee’s meeting on Jan 22, chaired by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul, were made available on the parliament website today.
Former minister in the prime minister’s department (federal territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa (PH-Sekijang) was appointed as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), to replace newly-appointed Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin.
Sim was also replaced as vice chair of the Health PSSC by Tan Kar Hing (PH-Gopeng).
Onn Abu Bakar (PH-Batu Pahat) replaced Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari in the Health PSSC after the latter was appointed youth and sports minister.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam) will replace Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) who was the chair of the Finance and Economy PSSC.
Shahar was appointed deputy economy minister.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Lo Su Fui (GRS-Tawau) was replaced by Datuk Matbali Musah in the House’s Committee and by Datuk Jonathan Yassin (GRS-Ranau) in the Finance and Economy PSSC.
Jimmy Puah (PH-Tebrau), meanwhile, replaced Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) who was the vice chairman of the Security PSSC.
Syed Ibrahim is now deputy natural resources and environmental sustainability minister.
Meanwhile, Tan Hong Pin (PH-Bakri) replaced newly-appointed Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol in the Women, Children and Community Development PSSC.
Additionally, Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) replaced Datuk Suhaimi Nasir (BN-Libaran) who had resigned from the same committee.
Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik (PH-Balik Pulau) replaced Yuneswaran Ramaraj (PH-Segamat) in the International Relations and Trade PSSC after Yuneswaran was appointed as deputy national unity minister.
Meanwhile, newly-appointed Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Chiew Choon Man is replaced by Rodziah Ismail (PH-Ampang) in the Human Rights, Elections, and Institutional Reform PSSC.
