KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan is putting all its focus on achieving victory in the coming Lamag and Kinabatangan by-elections, said Datuk Jafry Ariffin.
The Sabah Barisan chief said that victory for the party was vital to ensure a stable state government, helmed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said such stability could only be achieved with unity amongst all component parties so that policies and development plans can be drawn up as well as implemented consistently, holistically and on a long-term basis.
Jafry, who said this after chairing the Sabah unity government coordination meeting on Monday night, also thanked Hajiji for his support towards this coordination.
The meeting was attended by representatives from other component parties such as Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), PKR, Upko and PBRS.
This was to ensure victory for the Barisan candidates Mohd Kurniawan Naim (Kinabatangan), son of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, and former independent candidate Mohd Ismail Ayob (DUN Lamag).
“This by-election is not just a political contest, but a matter of the people’s mandate and future of our constituencies,” Jafry said.
Kinabatangan and Lamag by-election falls on Jan 24, while the early polls involving 196 registered voters is commencing now.
Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek Chua is also running for the Lamag state seat while Warisan’s Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman and independent candidate Goldam Hamid are vying for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat.
