Kelantan govt receives bids for KB Sentral project

KOTA BARU: Six contractors have submitted their tenders to the state government for the RM64 million Kota Baru Integrated Bus Terminal project (KB Sentral).

However, State Public Works, Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin declined to disclose whether the contractors were local or foreign firms.

He said the State Economic Planning Unit had been tasked with shortlisting the applicants.

“We have received applications from six contractors. They will be evaluated based on several key criteria, particularly strong financial capacity and machinery capabilities,” he told reporters after visiting the site of the project in Tunjong today.

He said the state government expects to finalise the appointment of the main contractor by February or March this year, with the project award also scheduled within the same period.

Once the contractor is appointed, work would proceed concurrently with land treatment works.

Preliminary works on the project are expected to begin in mid-February, starting with land treatment, which is estimated to take about one year before the main construction phase commences.

Dr Izani said the long-standing issues surrounding KB Sentral have been resolved following the award of land treatment works to a subsidiary company of CCC Group.

He said the land treatment package, involving soil excavation and refilling works, is valued at RM14 million and is scheduled to begin on Jan 20.

“The works involve excavating soil to a depth of two metres and refilling it with another two metres. This phase is expected to be completed by December,” he said.

“With these developments, we consider the KB Sentral issue to be resolved,” he added.
