KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has conveyed his “intentions and feelings” to party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during a meeting at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Akmal, who is also the Merlimau assemblyman, thanked Zahid for listening to his grievances but stopped short of revealing the details of their discussion or whether he would remain in his current positions.
“I have expressed my heart and intentions to Zahid. Thank you for the advice and for being willing to listen.
“God willing, may this be for the best for the struggle of religion, race, homeland, and Umno,” he said in a Facebook post last night.
Yesterday, it was reported that Zahid had met with Akmal and provided advice for his consideration.
The deputy prime minister said any decision regarding Akmal’s intention to resign would be announced by the Umno Youth leader himself today.
Akmal had previously said he would abide by the decision made by Zahid and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh concerning the positions he is currently holding.
He noted that both leaders were responsible for his selection to contest the state seat and his appointment as the Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security committee chairman.
Akmal had previously hinted at stepping down after his call for Umno to leave the unity government was met with a negative response from Zahid.
