KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor MCA Youth has urged the state government to investigate allegations of corruption, conflicts of interest, and governance failures surrounding a proposed large-scale pig farming project in Tanjong Sepat.
Its chief, Tan Jie Sen, said a probe must be conducted into the company set to profit from the venture and the tender process used to award the project.
“This includes the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report that approved the project in Tanjong Sepat despite early protests from residents.
“In a pluralistic country, the sensitivities of diverse races and religions must be considered first so that a harmonious solution acceptable to all parties can be reached,” he said in a statement today.
Tan said the state government should have engaged with residents to hear their grievances instead of making a unilateral decision.
He stressed that large-scale pig farming hubs should not be located near residential areas, particularly those with a Muslim majority.
The selection of the site, he added, must also account for its proximity to rivers or water sources that could be contaminated by operational lapses.
“At the same time, there is no need to drag in the previous Barisan Nasional administration, which was said to have proposed such a project.
“The selection of a suitable location should be made by the PKR and DAP state government, which has been in power for nearly 20 years in Selangor,” he said.
