PETALING JAYA: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has not decided to join Perikatan Nasional or any new coalition, says the party’s deputy chairman, S. Arutchelvam.

This follows PSM’s attendance at a meeting of party leaders from the non-government bloc convened by Perikatan Nasional chairman and Bersatu president Tan Sri Yassin.

PSM said that its participation in the meeting aligns with its policy of attending discussions when invited by any political party.

“Tan Sri Yassin presented several proposals, including a cross-party understanding among opposition parties.

“PSM welcomed the discussions and shared our views and position,” said Arutchelvam in a statement on Saturday (July 19).

He added that PSM currently holds political understandings only with Muda and Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM).

In the past, the party also had understandings with Gagasan Demokrasi Rakyat (GDR) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

“Any decision to join a political coalition can only be made by the PSM Congress, in accordance with the party’s tradition of democratic centralism,” Arutchelvam added.
