'Act now to cleanse system of corruption, misconduct' - Anwar

: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim today reiterated that enforcement agencies must act firmly against corruption and crime, while remaining within the law.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly, said the reminder was necessary despite previous warnings.

“Agencies such as the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and border agencies must act decisively against criminals and corrupt individuals.

At the same time, they must respect legal procedures and comply with regulations,” he said.

said the best time to address wrongdoing is while in a position of power.

“Previously, we thought about politicians; now it includes civil servants, military officers and police, without exception,” he said.

The prime minister’s comments come amid renewed calls for the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), following criticisms that the existing Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) lacks authority.

The calls were amplified after several incidents, including the fatal shooting of three suspects by police in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, which prompted allegations of misconduct.

Anwar said that enforcement agencies have the mandate and support to act now to cleanse the system of corruption and malpractice, urging officials to carry out reforms while in office rather than waiting until after retirement.
