SHAH ALAM: A police stop as part of a narcotics operation led to the discovery of heroin base hidden inside a special compartment of a car.
The hidden compartment in the car contained 14.52kg of heroin base and 920g of heroin.
The find was part of a larger scale operation by the police aimed at a drug smuggling operation with raids in the Klang Valley and Penang.
Investigations into the group also led to the seizure of 25.55kg of heroin base from a condominium in Selangor and a further 7.456kg of heroin base in another condominium located in Penang.
“The suspects were caught with both heroin base and heroin,” said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan during a press conference Wednesday (July 16) at the Selangor police headquarters.
Comm Hussein said police personnel from Bukit Aman and the Selangor Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) began their raids across the Klang Valley and Penang simultaneously on July 12 from 1.24pm to 3.35 pm, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
“We caught the first suspect in Subang Jaya in a car fleeing from the police and found heroin base weighing 14.52kg and 920g of heroin in a black bag in a special compartment at the back seat.
“This suspect customised a special compartment in his car to hide the drugs in order to pass through road blocks,” Comm Hussein said.
The second suspect was found with heroin base weighing 25.55kg at a condominium in Seri Kembangan, Selangor while the third arrested at a restaurant in Penang.
Police also found 7.456kg of heroin base in his condominium in Permatang Pauh.
In total, the police seized 47.526kg heroin base and 920g of heroin, worth RM4.13mil.
“The first and second suspect have been remanded for five days while the third suspect has been remanded for six days.
“The first suspect has four prior criminal offences and seven narcotics cases while the second suspect had two criminal offences and two narcotics cases,” he added.
“Both were found to be drug transporters in Serdang.
“The third suspect has two previous narcotic offcences. However it is believed that he is the mastermind as he first brought the drugs to Penang and began the operation there,” Comm Hussein said.
