KANGAR: Three former Perlis assemblymen who were sacked from Pas last month have submitted an appeal to the party’s Syura Council over their membership status.
Speaking on behalf of the trio, Mohd Ridzuan Hashim said the move was made in accordance with provisions in the party’s constitution.
Ridzuan, previously the Guar Sanji assemblyman, said the Pas constitution allows any member subjected to disciplinary action to submit an appeal within 30 days from the date of the decision by the Pas central committee.
“The Syura Council has the authority to review and decide on the appeal as stipulated under Clause 9 of the Pas constitution, which outlines the council’s role as the party’s highest body in determining policies, interpretations and resolutions of major issues,” Ridzuan said.
The other two former assemblymen are Saad Seman and Fakhrul Anwar Ismail, who represented Chuping and Bintong respectively.
Ridzuan said the three assemblymen still hope to be reinstated as Pas members and have never made any public statements regarding the matter.
On the filing of an originating summons at the Kangar High Court yesterday, Ridzuan said the action was not intended to interfere with party affairs.
“It is to obtain legal confirmation on whether the Perlis state assembly speaker acted beyond the powers granted by law or otherwise.
“We respectfully leave the matter to the wisdom of the court to decide according to legal principles.
“At the same time, we urge all parties to respect the legal and party disciplinary processes and avoid any speculation that could affect harmony and unity within Pas,” he said.
It was reported that the sacking of the three came on the heels of claims that several Perikatan Nasional assemblymen, including those from Pas, signed a statutory declaration to withdraw their support from Sanglang assemblyman Mohd Shukri Ramli of Pas as the Perlis menteri besar.
Following their sacking from Pas, Perlis speaker Rus’sele Eizan announced their seats vacant.
