KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor government has clarified that monthly rental assistance for residents affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion is ongoing, following recent reports of delays.
According to the office of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, residents of Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru and Putra Heights who were verified by the Petaling District and Land Office have been receiving the aid since April 2025.
Any apparent delays, the office said, are linked to ongoing repair or rebuilding work on their homes.
“For Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, 18 units of houses have been completed by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), and keys were handed over to the affected families on Dec 4 2025,” said Jay Jay Denis, Amirudin’s press secretary.
Monthly rental aid is now focused on Putra Heights residents whose homes remain under repair or reconstruction by developer Sime Darby Property.
Amirudin has directed that repair works be prioritised so residents can return to their homes as soon as possible.
The state government continues to engage with residents’ associations to provide updates on matters under its responsibility, the statement added.
Several residents were reported as saying that delays in state government aid had caused financial strain as they waited for permanent housing.
Residents were forced to flee after a gas pipeline explosion damaged homes at Jalan Putra Harmoni on April 1, last year.
