Bersatu urges Muhyiddin to reconsider PN chairmanship resignation


KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) hopes former prime minister, Tan Sri Yassin, will reconsider his decision to resign as chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), as the coalition prepares to convene its Supreme Council meeting, its information chief said today.

Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said many members of Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council disagreed with ‘s decision to step down but respected his choice and had asked him to review it.

“Although many members disagreed with his decision, they respected it and only requested that he review it,” he told the New Straits Times.

Tun Faisal added that Bersatu remains guided by principles and collective decision-making within PN, including provisions outlined in the coalition’s constitution.

He said Bersatu would hold meetings of its Political Bureau and Supreme Leadership Council in the coming days to discuss matters related to PN in greater detail, while the date for the PN Supreme Council meeting would be announced soon.

His remarks come as confirmed it will take over the leadership of PN following ‘s resignation.

president, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party would hold a special meeting next week to select a new chairman, adding that the post would not be filled by a Bersatu leader.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin said he would remain as Bersatu president and reaffirmed the party’s loyalty to PN.
