PETALING JAYA: Government’s focus will not be affected by the issue affecting PAS and Bersatu, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said talks on the potential revival of Muafakat Nasional were still at an early stage and that no further details had been conveyed to him.
He said any decision regarding Muafakat Nasional lies with the parties concerned.
“The important thing now is that the unity government remains intact. Everyone has pledged to focus on economic growth and the welfare of the people until the next election,” he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Jumhuriah Mosque in Taman Dato’ Harun on Jan 2.
Anwar said the internal party splits did not pose a concern for the unity government.
“Matters of personal ambitions or internal divisions within parties are not my (government) concern,” he said.
Responding to questions on whether such splits would benefit the government, Anwar said any conflicts that arise are the responsibility of the parties concerned, adding that the government would not intervene.
“That is their problem; we are not involved. We do not interfere in PAS and BERSATU internal disputes—their splits are not the government concern,” he said.
It was reported earlier that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the relationship between PAS and Bersatu remains strong and could pave the way for the revival of Muafakat Nasional, in response to questions on the latest developments following proposals to dissolve Perikatan Nasional and re-establish Muafakat Nasional.
