KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,206 summonses were issued and seven individuals arrested during a special traffic enforcement operation conducted across in conjunction with the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the state’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT)carried out the operation from Dec 31 until early this morning.

He said the operation demonstrated the authorities’ firm stance against non-compliant driving behaviour and other violations that could threaten public order during the new year festivities.

“Based on field monitoring, we took firm action by issuing a total of 1,206 summonses to road users who failed to comply with traffic regulations. Ampang Jaya recorded the highest number with 199 summonses, followed by Shah Alam with 161 and Petaling Jaya with 156,” he said.

He added that enforcement was also carried out in other districts, including North Klang with 124 summonses, South Klang with 80, and Sungai Buloh with 74, as well as across all districts under the police contingent, which remain under close monitoring.

To send a clear signal against persistent non-compliance, police also seized 93 vehicles for various offences.

“In addition, seven individuals were arrested under the Road Transport Act 1987. This included two arrests under Section 45A(1) for driving with an alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit, two arrests under Section 42(1) for reckless and dangerous driving or riding, and three arrests under Section 108(3) for offences involving vehicle registration numbers, licence plates, and related documents,” he said.

Shazeli said the operation’s success was achieved through close cooperation with strategic partners, involving a total strength of 413 personnel.

“This included 350 officers and personnel from the state JSPT, along with 41 supporting personnel from various internal police departments, including the Criminal Investigation Department, the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, and General Duties.

“In addition, the operation was further strengthened by 19 officers from the Road Transport Department and three members of the People’s Volunteer Corps to ensure that every critical route under the Selangor police contingent remained controlled and safe,” he said.
