
PETALING JAYA: Seven people were arrested in a traffic operation during the New Year’s Eve celebrations on Wednesday (Dec 31) night, according to Selangor police.
In a statement on Thursday (Jan 1), state police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspects were detained under the Road Transport Act 1987.
A total of 1,206 summonses were issued during the statewide operation, he added.
“The Ampang Jaya district recorded the highest number with 199 summonses, followed by Shah Alam (161) and Petaling Jaya (156).
“This intensive enforcement also included actions taken in other districts such as North Klang (124), South Klang (80), Sungai Buloh (74), as well as all other districts under the Selangor police contingent.
“To send a clear message against serious non-compliance, we also seized 93 vehicles for various offences.
“Selangor police will not compromise on non-compliance… to ensure that the public is protected from the negligence of irresponsible drivers,” he said.
