SERDANG: Police have submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (A-GC) the investigation papers on the case of a man who was allegedly assaulted by policemen in Banting last month.

Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the investigation papers were submitted last week after it was referred to Bukit Aman.

“We are awaiting orders from the A-GC on the investigation papers,” he said at the district police headquarters here.

He said police were committed to upholding transparency and integrity in all investigations and would not compromise on any misconduct to ensure justice was served.

Last Wednesday, Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said police had submitted investigation papers on the case to the Prosecutor’s Office.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, an offence punishable by imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Previously, Kuala Langat deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Sufian Amin said a 39-year-old woman lodged a report over the incident involving her son.

He said in the report, the woman said she received a three-minute CCTV recording from her father showing the victim being slapped several times by individuals who introduced themselves as policemen.

The complainant’s father allegedly witnessed the incident.

Earlier this month, lawyer Latheefa Koya claimed at a press conference that the victim, in his 20s, was beaten and burnt while in custody by the alleged policemen to force him to confess to a crime.
