SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan’s Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman has stepped down following the departure of the coalition’s national chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.
Labu state assemblyman Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker announced his resignation effective on Jan 1, 2026, in a statement today.
Following Muhyiddin‘s quitting, there has been a string of resignations. This included Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal stepping down as PN Johor chairman and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali resigning as PN secretary-general and PN Selangor chairman.

“I take note that my appointment as chairman of Perikatan Nasional Negri Sembilan falls under the jurisdiction of the chairman of Perikatan Nasional Malaysia.
“In this regard, I hereby announce my resignation as chairman of Perikatan Nasional Negri Sembilan, effective Jan 1, 2026.
“This decision was made with a full sense of responsibility and in line with the principle of respecting the structure, hierarchy and governance of the Perikatan Nasional organisation,” Hanifah said today.
Hanifah is also the state’s Bersatu chairman.
Hanifah, who also serves as the opposition leader of the Negri Sembilan’s state legislature, expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to all leaders, colleagues, machinery and supporters of the coalition’s Negri Sembilan chapter.
“I would like to thank everyone for the support and trust that have been given to me throughout the time I carried this responsibility,” he said.
