KUALA LUMPUR: Police are awaiting a report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in connection with the investigation into controversial activist and graphic designer Fahmi Reza.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the investigation papers would be referred back to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) once the MCMC report is received for further instructions.
“We are still waiting for the report from MCMC before the investigation papers are resubmitted to the A-GC for further directives and advice,” he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman here today.
Fahmi had his statement recorded on Dec 19 after he allegedly uploaded posts containing defamatory content and insults directed at the Johor Regent.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, up to three years’ imprisonment, or both, if convicted.
It is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network services.
