Gamel warns Selangor to sharpen finishing ahead of Melaka clash

KUALA LUMPUR: interim coach Christophe Gamel has warned his players to stop being wasteful and sharpen their finishing for tomorrow’s Super League clash against struggling Melaka FC at the MBPJ Stadium.

Gamel praised his side’s spirit following their 3-1 win over Police on Tuesday but said repeated defensive errors and missed chances cannot continue.

“The boys showed hunger to execute the game plan against the Cops,” said Gamel.

“But I’m frustrated because we conceded and missed many chances. This could be a problem later if goal difference becomes important.”

The Red Giants remain fourth in the league with 22 points despite injuries to Zach Clough, Sikh Izhan Nazrel, Samuel Somerville and Sharul Nazeem.

Gamel said the team are looking for reinforcements during next month’s second transfer window, targeting forwards, wingers and more physical presence in midfield.

Meanwhile, Melaka coach Datuk K. Devan needs a win to save the club’s season.

Melaka are second-from-bottom with six points, ahead of Police only on goal difference.

Devan said a recurring habit of conceding early has left the team under constant pressure.

“We always concede early. That puts us in a difficult situation,” said Devan.

Melaka’s performance has been hampered by a thin squad, with only four imports available and several key players missing.

Devan said the team need a playmaker, more quality in attack, and experienced wingers to survive.

“With the players we have, we must prepare and play,” he said.
