KANGAR: A state assemblyman whose membership was revoked has admitted to receiving several offers from various political parties.

Bintong assemblyman Fakhrul Ismail said the offers arrived after decided to revoke his party membership with immediate effect.

“I have received ‘cheeky’ offers from various parties and was also offered the chance to stand as a candidate,” he told Sinar Harian.

However, Fakhrul stressed that he still holds close to his heart, having been involved with the party since he was young.

“I still cherish PAS’s struggle… I have been involved since I was young, not just for a day or two in PAS… from having nothing to being destined to become an assemblyman.

“However, it must be stated that we are in this party not because of any ‘individual’,” he explained.

He said PAS has three main responsibilities, namely to serve seriously in the fields of siasah (politics), tarbiah (education) and dakwah (preaching). He added that if one is obstructed in the political arena, there are still two other aspects that can be utilised.

Fakhrul was one of three PAS assemblymen who had their membership revoked after they signed statutory declarations (SD) to retract support for former Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli. The other two assemblymen were Saad Seman (Chuping) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).

He acknowledged that he is prepared to submit an appeal to the party within the stipulated period.

“An appeal on membership, yes, that is indeed a right granted by the party. We will submit an appeal, but it will not be done immediately.

“What is certain is that the appeal is an individual right. Whether it is approved or otherwise depends on the party leadership. We will make use of the opportunity available,” he said.

He said there is a possibility that two of his colleagues may likewise submit appeals to the party regarding their membership status.

“This is my stance, but I believe it is the same for all three of us,” he added.
