KUALA LUMPUR: Sanglang assemblyman Mohd Shukri Ramli has denied that his resignation as Perlis Menteri Besar is linked to the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The former Perlis Pas commissioner also said he was unaware of the claims regarding statutory declarations (SDs) by eight assemblymen reportedly withdrawing their support for him until the day they were submitted.
If the claims were true, Shukri said he was not upset with the assemblymen but admitted he may have been too kind and placed too much value on the friendships he had built.
“I didn’t know about the move. I had no information. It happened so suddenly. I only learned of it on the day itself, so it was their own decision.
“To say I am disappointed, maybe not, but it was my own mistake for being too kind and valuing these friendships so highly.
“We never expected this from our friends, yet I was treated in this manner,” he said at a press conference aired live via his Facebook today.
Shukri earlier said his resignation was prompted solely by health reasons and was not influenced by any other factors.
When asked about the implications for Perikatan Nasional (PN), Shukri said the coalition’s leadership would meet to review the acceptance and relationships among its member parties.
“I must leave this to the PN leadership. They will meet to reassess acceptance and the relations between the parties within the coalition,” he added.
Prior to his resignation, there were claims that several PN assemblymen, including those from Pas, had signed SDs expressing their decision to withdraw support for Shukri as Menteri Besar.
Last night, Pas announced that it had sacked three of its members, who are also Perlis assemblymen.
The trio are Chuping assemblyman Saad Seman, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).
