KUALA LUMPUR: Police have submitted investigation papers to the Selangor public prosecutions office over allegations that a man was assaulted by individuals believed to be policemen at a house in Kampung Sungai Ingat, Banting, last month.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the incident, which was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and has since gone viral, is under investigation.
“The police report was lodged on Nov 18 by a woman who alleged that her son was assaulted during the arrest,” he said in a statement today.
Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, an offence punishable by imprisonment for up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
“The investigation papers were referred to the Selangor public prosecutions office director today for further advice and instructions,” he said.
He added that police are committed to upholding transparency and integrity in all investigations and will not compromise on any form of misconduct to ensure justice is served.
Yesterday, Kuala Langat deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Sufian Amin said authorities were investigating the man’s allegations.
He said that based on the report, the 39-year-old woman received a three-minute CCTV recording showing the victim being slapped several times by individuals who introduced themselves as policemen.
According to the report, he said, the complainant’s son was slapped several times by the policemen in an attempt to unearth evidence. The complainant’s father also informed that he witnessed the incident as it occurred.
It was reported that lawyer Latheefa Koya, during a press conference, said the victim, in his 20s, alleged that he was beaten and burnt with fire by police while in custody to force him to confess to a crime which he denied committing.
