No legal move yet by Kedah on Penang claim, says CM

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has yet to receive any notice or petition from the Kedah government regarding Kedah’s position on its relationship with Penang.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the State Legal Adviser had also confirmed that no communication had been received from Kedah on the matter, which has persisted for the past three years.

“No. There is still nothing; no notice or petition received.

“There is not even an official letter,” he said when met at the launch of the Kita Bersama Petron Penang and Penang Welfare Department 2025 Calendar at Komtar here today.

Last month, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Md Nor said Kedah was assembling a legal team to bring the case involving the state’s relationship with Penang to court.

Chow, responding to ‘s remarks in the years-long “Penang belongs to Kedah” saga, had shot back and told the latter to meet him in court.

said the move came after the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, called for the matter to be resolved transparently.

In 2021, the Kedah government demanded RM100 million from the federal government for the “lease” of Penang island and Seberang Prai, arguing that the amount had not been reassessed since 1786.
