KUALA LUMPUR: Men’s doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun crashed out of the World Tour Finals (WTF) in Hangzhou after losing their last group matches on Friday.
World No. 2 Aaron-Wooi Yik needed to win in straight games against India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty but lost 21-17, 18-21, 21-15 in Group B.
Satwiksairaj-Chirag topped Group B while China‘s world No. 6 Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang took the second semi-final spot after securing a 21-17, 21-14 win over Indonesia’s world No. 8 Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri.
World No. 4 Wei Chong-Kai Wun pushed South Korea‘s world No. 1 Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae all the way before falling 25-23, 14-21, 21-19 in a 63-minute Group A clash.
Joining Won Ho-Seung Jae in the last four were Indonesia’s world No. 10 Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza Isfahani, who defeated Taiwan’s world No. 16 Chiu Hsiang Chieh-Wang Chi Lin 21-19, 20-22, 21-15.
Both Aaron–Wooi Yik and Wei Chong-Kai Wun will have the consolation of receiving US$39,000 (RM159,000) for finishing third in their respective groups.
Women’s doubles world No. 2 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and mixed doubles world No. 3 Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei secured their last-four berths earlier on Friday.
