SEMENYIH: Barisan Nasional component parties have been told they should not regret leaving the coalition, as there will be no path back once they do.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition would not take back parties that had chosen to exit.
“Do not regret the decision to leave BN. Once you leave, there is no turning back.
“Do not make decisions when you are angry, upset, or under pressure. The political landscape is dynamic and constantly changing, and it requires patience and rational thinking,” he said when addressing the Indian Progressive Front (IPF) general assembly here today.
Zahid said the history of friendship and loyalty within BN, spanning more than seven decades, should be respected and not discarded due to dissatisfaction or what he described as “mabuk kuasa” (power crazy).
Zahid also took a swipe at “certain parties” that had previously been unwilling to engage with the unity government.
“However, after three years of the unity government, they now claim they are being sidelined and treated like stepchildren,” he said.
Previously, MIC delegates at the party’s 79th annual general meeting had said they would leave it to president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran and the central working committee to decide whether to leave BN, which it had co-founded with Umno and MCA.
Meanwhile, MCA passed a resolution to quit BN if any of the coalition’s component parties worked with DAP in the next general election.
Later, when asked by reporters whether MIC had submitted any resolution to leave BN, Zahid said he had not received any formal notice.
“I have not seen any resolution or letter and certainly no decision has been made.
“However, if they are unable to make a decision, we will make one for them,” he said.
