PADANG BESAR: Damage to facilities under the Perlis Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) from the Northeast Monsoon floods in late November is estimated at RM6 million to RM8 million.

Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the losses involved the collapse of three bridges, as well as damage to water control gates for padi irrigation and other supporting infrastructure.

Although the final assessment has yet to be completed, he said the ministry has agreed to expedite emergency repair works, which are expected to begin as early as next month.

“These works are critical as they involve public safety and daily access for local communities,” he told reporters today.

Akmal said the ministry has instructed all flood-affected states, including Perlis, Perak, and Kedah, to submit detailed damage reports to enable a comprehensive assessment and prioritisation of repairs.

He added the ministry will provide dedicated emergency funding, with priority given to rebuilding collapsed bridges and other severely damaged structures.
