A-GC requests police to finalise and submit Wan Ahmad Faris death probe

KOTA BARU: The Attorney-General’s Chambers (A-GC) has requested the police to submit the investigation report on the death of the late Wan Ahmad Faris Wan Abdul Rahman once it is completed.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said to date, the police has not provided the investigation findings to the A-GC.

“We will request the police to submit the investigation report once it has been finalised.

“However, instructions for further investigations are continually issued to ensure the case is thoroughly examined. The report is crucial for the A-GC to determine whether there are any criminal elements involved in the death of Wan Ahmad Faris,” he said yesterday.

It was previously reported that police had recorded statements from 68 witnesses as part of the reopened investigation into the death of the tahfiz student.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had said the reinvestigation was launched to ensure full transparency, compliance with standard operating procedures, and to address concerns from the victim’s family and the public.

Wan Ahmad Faris, then a Form Four student, was found hanging in the toilet of the Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman hostel in Kok Lanas, , in December 2013.

His body was discovered by a hostel supervisor after a foul smell was detected.

A forensic pathologist initially ruled the death as a sudden death and not linked to any criminal elements.

However, in June 2016, the Coroner’s Court concluded that Wan Ahmad Faris’s death was caused by the actions of an unidentified individual.

Following the court ruling, the family has taken multiple steps to seek justice, including submitting appeals to the A-GC, police, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
