KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is prepared to quit Barisan Nasional () if the coalition continues to back policies and political arrangements that burden the people and weaken it, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said , which also comprises , , and PBRS, risks being “dragged down” by unpopular federal government policies.

Addressing delegates at the party’s general assembly, Wee questioned how leaders were expected to defend policies that the coalition was neither consulted on nor aligned with its spirit and principles.

Wee said MCA’s grassroots were increasingly frustrated by being forced to explain or defend federal policies that the party did not endorse.

“MCA is prepared to go its own way if BN continues to support policies and political arrangements that hurt the people and weaken the coalition,” he said.

He added that loyalty to BN “cannot come at the expense of the people.”

Wee said confidence in political parties was fragile, and BN’s relevance would depend on its ability to demonstrate independence, accountability, and a willingness to speak up on issues.

“If the unity government continues with policies that burden the rakyat, and BN continues to support them without question, then MCA must be prepared to act in the best interests of the people,” he said.
