KLANG: The remains of Gan Hon Tat, 32, and Careen Man, 29, are still missing at sea.
Gan and Man were among six people – including their three-year-old son Darren – involved in a boat capsize 0.3 nautical miles west of Tanjung Harapan on Friday evening.
The remains of Darren, Cheu Son Hin, 50, and Fong Yong Sen, 29, were found on the boat, while Gan and Man were missing, said Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh.
“It is believed they were thrown off the boat when it capsized,” said Captain Abdul Muhaimin.
The sole survivor, Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17, is receiving treatment in hospital. He managed to save himself by staying afloat, explained Captain Abdul Muhaimin.
Captain Abdul Muhaimin also said the boat was being test-driven by the group when it capsized.
“We are uncertain why the boat was being test-driven,” said Captain Abdul Muhaimin, when asked if it was being tested before purchase or already owned.
Initially, it was suspected that the missing couple might have been buried in the boat, which was partially covered in mud when towed to the MMEA jetty.
“Their remains were not found in the mud,” confirmed Captain Abdul Muhaimin.
The remains of Darren, Cheu, and Fong were taken to Shah Alam Hospital on Friday night for post-mortem examinations.
A joint search and rescue operation involving the MMEA, marine police, and the Fire and Rescue Department is ongoing.
