KUALA LUMPUR: Velocity FC’s rising stars shone at the recent Maxim Elite Tournament, defying age expectations and proving they belong on the international stage.

Although an Under-15 squad, the team competed in the Under-17 international category — yet still battled their way to the final, displaying composure, technical quality and resilience.

Velocity started strongly with a 2–0 win over MSRI, followed by a 4–0 victory over FC KL and a narrow 1–0 win against F90.

They kept their momentum in the semi-finals, defeating Soccer School 4–0.

In the final, they met F90 again and battled to a 0–0 draw after extra time before bowing 3–2 on penalties, finishing runners-up.

Head coach Shaun Scully expressed immense pride in his young squad’s achievements.

“We are very proud of the team’s performance. The girls showed remarkable maturity both on and off the field.

“While they may be smaller physically, their technical readiness shines through. We truly believe these players have a bright future ahead,” he said.

Scully said the Maxim Elite campaign was just one chapter in a bigger developmental push.

“Looking ahead, our focus is on continuing to develop these young players and preparing them for major competitions such as Liga Puteri FA of Malaysia (FAM) and the Women’s Super League organised by FA of ,” Scully said.

“Ultimately, our main objective is to prepare them for future national team call-ups.”

Scully added that by 2026, the club aim to send as many players as possible into the national team pipeline while challenging them in higher-category tournaments to accelerate their growth.
