SHAH ALAM: The victims of a boat capsize incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan, who are still missing, are believed to have been test-driving a recently repaired boat when the incident occurred yesterday afternoon.
Selangor Maritime Director Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the victim is believed to have taken the boat out for a test drive from the Royal Selangor Yacht Club, Zone 14, Port Klang.
“According to the information received, the victim’s boat had previously broken down. After it was repaired, he wanted to test it out at sea, bringing along his family and friends.
“Yesterday afternoon, he took his family and friends out to sea in that boat,” he said when contacted today.
As of now, Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama, are still missing.
Search and rescue operations by the Selangor Maritime Enforcement Agency are ongoing, with the help of partner agencies.

Muhaimin said the incident occurred at 4.30pm, involving six individuals on board the boat, with only one survivor confirmed so far.
He added that preliminary investigations suggest the boat lost control before capsizing, about 0.3 nautical miles west of Tanjung Harapan.
Meanwhile, NSTP is still awaiting an official statement from the South Klang district police headquarters regarding the incident.
