JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued warnings of continuous rain, strong winds, and rough seas affecting several districts across Johor and its coastal waters today.
Continuous rain is expected in Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Baru between Dec 7 and 8, while first-category strong winds are anticipated over eastern Johor waters, as well as parts of Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Tioman, and surrounding areas, with waves reaching 2.5 to 3.5 metres.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said MetMalaysia had alerted the state to the developing weather patterns involving persistent rain, strong winds, and turbulent seas in several parts of the country, including waters off Johor.
He added that the state government had heightened preparedness through close coordination with security agencies, regular monitoring of low-lying and riverbank areas, and the deployment of assets at strategic locations to enable swift action should water levels rise or sea conditions worsen.
“I urge all Bangsa Johor to remain vigilant, avoid recreational activities along beaches and in coastal waters, and rely solely on official updates. If authorities instruct you to evacuate, prioritise your family’s safety and act immediately,” he said.
He also said that the state would continue to pray for Johor to be spared from calamities as it navigates this period of unstable weather.
