SHAH ALAM: A hundred and five foreign nationals were detained in three separate early morning operations in Sekinchan and Sabak Bernam today.
The joint operations were carried out by the Smuggling of Migrants Division (D3) and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) unit together with other enforcement agencies.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the first raid, at 2.40am, was conducted at a house along Jalan JPT, Sekinchan.
Police arrested three men aged between 26 and 32, along with a 24-year-old woman believed to be the caretaker of the premises.
“Also detained were 14 men aged 21 to 49 and 22 women aged 24 to 56 for not possessing valid travel documents.
“Police seized six mobile phones and the case is being investigated under Section 26A of the Atipsom Act 2007 and Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement.
In another operation, carried out at 2.15am near the Sekinchan jetty, police inspected a van and arrested a 19-year-old man believed to be the driver and land-based coordinator.
“With him were five men aged between 19 and 41 who also did not possess valid travel documents.
“Police seized four mobile phones and RM157. The case is being investigated under the same provisions,” he said.
For the third operation, also at 2.15am, the marine team intercepted an unregistered wooden pom-pom boat in the waters of Sabak Bernam.
Shazeli said checks found a 43-year-old man acting as the skipper, assisted by two men aged 35 and 46.
“Also detained were 48 men aged 16 to 56 and eight women aged 21 to 50, all without valid travel documents.
“Police seized three mobile phones. The case is being investigated under Section 26A of Atipsom 2007 and Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act,” he said.
