KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Organisation (Pakar) has urged all parties to stop speculating over a viral video clip involving Albert Tei, which allegedly links him to former prime minister’s senior political secretary, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
Its president, Mohd Nasir Ab Hadi, said allegations of corruption involving Shamsul and the individual making the claim, including businessman Albert Tei, should not be politicised, particularly ahead of the 17th Sabah General Election.
He added that if any party possesses solid evidence, it is their responsibility to submit an official report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to enable a thorough and professional investigation.
“Pakar believes that the integrity of the investigative process must be prioritised. Give MACC space to carry out its duties without pressure or interference from any party,” he said in a statement today.
He said any decision resulting from the investigation must be accepted in good faith to respect the principles of integrity, the rule of law, and justice.
Media reports yesterday reported that MACC will investigate allegations of bribery involving businessman Albert Tei and Shamsul.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki reportedly said the commission would summon both the individual making the allegation, Albert Tei, and the person accused, Shamsul, to give their statements.
Shamsul on Tuesday announced his resignation as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary.
In a statement posted on X, Shamsul said he had become aware of attempts to exploit a recent controversy to tarnish the image of the government.
His resignation comes in the wake of a dispute surrounding the alleged issuance of a letter of support for contractors involved in a hospital project.
