KUALA LUMPUR: has spent RM17,494,800 for its flight subsidy program for students, FLYsiswa, this year, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

This brings the total amount spent to RM40,009,500 for a total of 118,786 students over the span of three years since the program was introduced in 2023 to ease travelling costs and the overall financial burden for students.

“As of Sept 22, 2025, 43,737 students have received the subsidy (this year).

“This figure is expected to continue rising towards the end of the year,” he said in a written parliamentary reply last night in response to Oscar Ling Chai Yew (PH-Sibu).

Meanwhile in response to Datuk Seri Madius Tangau (UPKO-Tuaran), Loke said that subsidy recipients comprised 51,372 students from Sabah, 38,151 from Sarawak, 2,238 from the Federal Territory of Labuan, and 27,025 from other states.

“The majority of eligible students are those enrolled at public higher education institutions in Peninsular Malaysia,” Loke added.

FLYsiswa is a subsidised flight ticket programme for students in public universities, polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation institutes and teacher training institutes, aimed at easing the financial burden of travelling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan to return home.
