KOTA BARU: A woman who was found dead after a Toyota Hilux carrying her and two others was swept away by a sudden water surge in Gua Musang last week has been confirmed as ‘s first flood fatality.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, who confirmed this tonight, said the victim was identified only as Yenni, from Indonesia.

“The victim was travelling with two others when the incident happened on a bridge in Kampung Pulai on Nov 20.

“The three were heading to the KLC estate when the incident occurred at about 8.30pm.

“A local man and a Thai woman managed to escape, but the Indonesian victim was carried away by the strong current.

“Her body was discovered the following day about one kilometre from the scene,” he said.

Yusoff said a post-mortem confirmed drowning as the cause of death.

On the flood situation, Yusoff said police and other agencies would continue to monitor developments despite the weather improving slightly tonight.

Meanwhile, a survey in Rantau Panjang this evening showed that the Golok river has yet to overflow its banks.

The river was measured at 8.93m as of 10.15pm, which is 0.7m below its danger mark of 9m.
