SHAH ALAM: The flood situation in several areas in Selangor is worsening as the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres (PPS) continues to rise.
Based on the InfoBencana portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), 19 PPS were operating in five districts as of 8.35am.
The PPS are sheltering 2,702 evacuees from 738 families, with Kuala Selangor recording the highest number at 1,081 people across four PPS.
This is followed by 622 evacuees in Klang, 581 in Shah Alam, 265 in Hulu Langat, and 153 in Sabak Bernam.
Selangor state secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the state aimed to reduce the number of evacuees this year through better aid coordination, quicker fulfilment of urgent needs and mitigation works in hotspot areas.
Fadzli, who chairs the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), said the SMART Selangor Operation Centre (SSOC) monitored weather indicators and coordinated communication.
“SSOC integrates data with the district disaster operation centre (DDOC) and the disaster operation control centre (DOCC) to manage floods in Selangor,” he said.
He reminded residents in high-risk areas to follow instructions from security agencies and stay alert to weather updates. He also urged the public to call 999 in any emergency.
Yesterday, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state would announce several forms of support after accessing the flood situation, including a special briefing on disaster management.
He said aid would be announced for flood victims after reviewing the latest developments.
State executive councillors and officers were instructed to visit affected areas after the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday.
