MetMalaysia warns of heavy rain, strong winds and choppy seas in northern and western states from Nov 23-25 due to low pressure system

KUALA LUMPUR: A low pressure system over the Straits of Melaka is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds and choppy sea conditions to several states from November 23 to 25.

Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Datuk Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the system located at 5.4°N 98.3°W is nearly stationary.

He stated the system is expected to move northwest towards the Bengal Bay after 36 hours.

“The possibility of the system’s intensity rising to the level of a weak tropical cyclone is low,” he posted on MetMalaysia’s official X account.

The department has issued continuous rain warnings at Danger, Bad and Alert levels effective until November 25.

Strong wind and choppy sea condition warnings for Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Pahang and will remain until November 24.

MetMalaysia will periodically issue updates on advisories and warnings based on the latest situation. – Bernama
