KUALA LUMPUR: A 23-year-old pharmacy employee in Setia Alam endured a terrifying ordeal today when she was bitten by a python while using her workplace restroom.

Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar confirmed the incident which occurred at 3.46pm today in Jalan Setia Prima (R), U13/R.

“The victim, a pharmacy staff member, had gone to the toilet when she was bitten by a snake.

“Our personnel arrived at the scene at 4.04pm and confirmed that the 23-year-old victim was bitten by a 2m-long python,” he said when contacted today.

He said firemen immediately got to work to free the victim from the snakes grip.

“Upon arrival, our team found the victim already in distress after being bitten by the python.

“A team of six personnel from the Bukit Jelutong station managed to release her from the snake’s grip safely,” he said.

He said the woman was immediately handed over to Health Ministry personnel for further medical treatment.

“The reptile was successfully secured and later released at a safe location away from the public.

“The operation was brought under control at 4.15pm and concluded at 4.29pm,” he said.
