KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional (BN) has pledged to limit the chief minister’s tenure to a maximum of two terms if it is given the mandate to form the Sabah government after the Nov 29 polls.
The proposal is among the pledges contained under one of the six pillars in its manifesto for the Sabah General Election, unveiled today.
“This reform is intended to prevent the prolonged concentration of power in any one individual, open space for new and dynamic leadership focused on the people’s interests, and reinforce democratic principles,” the document said.
BN also pledged to increase the number of appointed assembly members from six to 12 to represent minority groups in Sabah.
“We want to ensure every community, regardless of background, has fair representation in the policy-making process.
“BN believes Sabah can become a model of inclusive and equitable politics that prioritises the wellbeing of all its people.”
At the federal level, BN will also push for a review of the allocation of 35 per cent of parliamentary seats in both the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara for Sabah and Sarawak.
The coalition said this step is crucial to ensuring balanced representation and safeguarding the interests of both states at the federal level.
“BN remains committed to defending Sabah’s political rights and its position as an equal partner in the formation of Malaysia.”
BN is contesting 45 of the 73 seats in the Sabah polls.
