2nd Chinese food carnival held in Colombo

COLOMBO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) — The 2nd Chinese Food Carnival and -Sri Lanka Cultural Performance was held here from Thursday to Friday, helping enhance cultural links between the two countries.

Addressing the event, Gamagedara Dissanayake, deputy minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, said Chinese cuisine carries the wisdom of history, showcasing exquisite culinary skills as well as distinctive cultural concepts. Cultural exchange events of this kind play an important role in enhancing people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and and deepening cooperation in education and tourism. He expressed hope that the two countries would continue to expand exchanges in various fields and further strengthen bonds of friendship.

Zhu Yanwei, charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, said and Sri Lanka enjoy a longstanding friendship and close people-to-people exchanges, adding that cultural activities not only bring the two peoples closer but also inject new momentum into bilateral cooperation in education, tourism and culture.

More than a dozen Chinese food stalls offered specialities of Fujian, Sichuan, Northeast China, Northwest China and other regions. Sri Lankan food and tea tasting activities were also welcomed.

“This is the most vivid, delicious and joyful way to understand Chinese culture, and it leaves you wanting more,” said Sri Lankan visitor Jayani Wijesinghe.

During the event, teams from China, Sri Lanka and other countries also presented performances featuring traditional dances, Chinese martial arts and other shows.
