MACC nabs investigation officer over RM3,000 bribe

SHAH ALAM: An investigation officer from an enforcement agency has been arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving RM3,000 in bribes to release a suspect.

According to a source, the man in his 40s was detained at his office here at 3.30pm yesterday.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers arrested the investigation officer for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribe money.

“The suspect is believed to have asked a person to pay a bribe in return for helping to secure the release of their brother, who is facing legal action in a drug abuse investigation,” the source said today.

The court granted a three-day remand order starting today to assist investigations.

Initial investigations found that the suspect had allegedly requested the bribe from a person who met him on Nov 18 following the arrest of their brother in a drug abuse case.

“The next day, the suspect instructed the person to bring RM1,500 and collect their brother, who had been detained earlier,” the source said.

Meanwhile, MACC director Mohd Azwan Ramli confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
