MELAKA: A total of 10kg of methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM67,400, was disposed of by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for Melaka and Negri Sembilan, following the conclusion of court proceedings and with official authorisation from the court.

Acting Maritime Director for Melaka and Negri Sembilan, Lieutenant Commander Norrimi Hassan, said the disposal was carried out yesterday at Medivest Sdn Bhd in Bukit Rambai.

He said the drugs had been seized during a series of enforcement operations conducted by the agency throughout the previous year.

He said the process was carried out under strict and controlled procedures at the site, after receiving an official court order for forfeiture following the conclusion of the relevant case.

“Each disposal session is limited to a maximum of 80kg of material, with the incineration process taking approximately eight hours to reduce the drugs to ash.

“The disposal is conducted meticulously to ensure no residue remains that could pose a risk to the environment.

“This process is part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to combating cross-border crime, particularly drug smuggling through our national waters,” he said in a statement today.

Norrimi said the resulting ash would be handed over to a certified and registered company for safe and legal processing, in line with regulatory guidelines.

“This programme is not just about destroying drugs, but also highlights the success of collaboration between agency, other enforcement agencies, and the local community in safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders.

“This initiative also reflects Malaysian Maritime’s firm stance in eradicating drug smuggling activities, ensuring our waters remain free from criminal threats to national security and the wellbeing of all Malaysians,” he said.
