KUALA LUMPUR: National squash player Ng Eain Yow is hoping to regain his momentum at the Indian Open in Indore, which starts on Tuesday, after dropping three rungs to world No. 14 in the men’s rankings.
Eain Yow, seeded second, will face an uphill battle to justify his seeding at the tournament.
The Malaysian is slated to meet reigning world junior champion Mohamad Zakaria of Egypt in the semi-finals.
The 18-year-old Zakaria moved up three spots to take over Eain Yow’s former world No. 11 ranking after reaching the semi-finals of last week’s China Open.
Eain Yow, who won the Malaysia Cup last November, received a bye in the first round and will face either Colombia’s Matias Knudsen or Egypt’s Ibrahim Elkabbani in the second round.
World No. 10 Youssef Soliman of Egypt is the top seed.
The other Malaysian in the men’s draw, world No. 80 C. Ameeshenraj, will face world No. 41 Yannick Wilhelmi of Switzerland in the first round.
In the women’s draw, Zoe Foo will take on India’s Eesha Shrivastava in the opening round.
