MIC to decide next steps after delegates back BN exit


‘s leadership will study a resolution to leave Barisan Nasional after delegates gave them the mandate to decide the party’s future direction.

SHAH ALAM: ‘s Central Working Committee will study a resolution passed at its annual assembly to leave Barisan Nasional before determining the party’s next course of action.

President Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran said delegates gave him and the CWC the mandate to decide on the party’s future direction.

He stressed that remains fully committed to supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim’s leadership until the end of his mandate.

“We are still firm in giving support to him for the next two years,” Vigneswaran told a press conference.

“We keep our word. We are not with any other party.”

He said MIC has not decided to join any political coalition, and a formal decision on leaving has yet to be finalised.

Vigneswaran explained he had discussed MIC’s constraints and challenges with , noting these issues did not stem from Pakatan Harapan.

Delegates unanimously supported the resolution to quit and left timing and new alignments to the leadership.

The president said the prime minister was receptive and understood the party’s position and dilemmas during their Friday meeting.

Vigneswaran added that the party’s actions aim to ensure any power-sharing arrangement maintains dignity and principle.

Responding to questions, he confirmed no meeting had occurred with chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi about MIC’s potential exit. – Bernama
