SHAH ALAM: MIC delegates at the party’s 2025 annual general assembly have approved a resolution to leave Barisan Nasional and join Opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional.
Based on a resolution distributed to grassroots members at division, branch and MIC leadership levels, the delegates’ meeting unanimously agreed to do so after taking into account the country’s current political situation.
“The meeting also took into account a comprehensive assessment of MIC‘s position and importance in Barisan.
“The existing cooperation no longer provides sufficient space for MIC to play an effective role in championing the interests of the Indian community and contributing to national development in this country,” according to the delegation’s resolution, reported Sinar Harian.
“MIC is ready to officially apply to join the Perikatan Nasional coalition to build a new platform that is more inclusive, principled and gives wider space to the voices of the Indian community in Malaysia.
“Today’s meeting gave full mandate to MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and the central working committee to implement steps and official matters related to this matter.”
