Sabah polls: Do not use children for political content, warns Nancy Shukri

KUCHING: Children should not be used when creating political content, especially during the 17th Sabah Election campaign period, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said the key role of parents is to ensure that their children are not exposed to activities that could negatively affect their future.

“The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has repeatedly reminded all parties not to exploit minors in any form of digital content,” she said.

Nancy added that if parents do not allow this, exploitation would not occur. Children should be given positive education, not used to criticise or condemn any political party, she said after officiating the Disability Equality Training Seminar and Job Coach Services here on Sunday (Nov 16).

In another development, Nancy also said that the government, through various agencies, continues to strengthen education and advocacy programmes for children.

One such initiative, the Kasih Kanak-Kanak Programme, had been implemented in 337 schools with the participation of 128,148 students, surpassing the initial target of 300 schools.

Additionally, programmes through the National Population and Family Development Board focuses on reproductive health education and character development, helping students understand their social responsibilities and make wiser decisions.

“All of this is essential to ensure that students avoid irresponsible behaviours, such as baby abandonment. Our goal is to help them grow into responsible individuals and parents must also understand the purpose of this programme,” she said. – Bernama
